ANDY- the sci-fi film ( not so sci-fi now) is doing very well with 251,471 views on YouTube, the only platform, on which we have released it. I wrote the film in 2022, we made the the film in 2024 and released it in 2026.
Timing is all and we picked the perfect time to showcase the film. Without the budget for a big splash release and a major distributor behind the film, we are doing very well. I am delighted. The subject is timely, the talk about AI, alarming and the film goes beyond the recent BBC series on the subject, which opted to go the comedy route.
I hope the BBC is right and the whole AI thing is a cosy joke. I am afraid it isn’t. I began to fear the implications of AI, when I wrote the first draft and I hope, very much, that I am wrong.
AI has been around for years, but now it is headline news, with its rapid advances. Can those who developed and enhanced Artificial Intelligence, really find a way to control it, harness its power? As Andy says in the film “ can I become human”. It is a question we should ask ourselves. If AI has the ability to outthink us, worse, control,us, can it develop human emotion? Wonderful – if it sticks with the positive, but disastrous if it focuses on the negative – power, greed, anger.
We must keep the fast moving advances of AI headlines news in any way we can. It is the job of us who tell stories, in whatever medium, to shine a light and comment on whatever is happening in our human lives. Whether we tell it in comic, or serious form is immaterial, so long as it is well told and makes the point. And, that the story makes us aware of the events shaping our human lives, good or bad. AI is one of the most important of those stories now.
It has always been my job as an actor to be part of the stories we tell and now having moved into production, even more so.
